Tantrum-Throwing Democrats Say Supreme Court is Now “Illegitimate”

    by Andrew 3 days ago

Democrats have been saying for two years that President Trump is an “illegitimate” president for one crazy reason or another, and now they’re ready to throw that label at the nation’s high court. Angry over their failed attempt to railroad Brett Kavanaugh, Democrats and other left-wing agitators are telling anyone who will listen that the Supreme Court’s legitimacy is now in question.

“Confirming Brett Kavanaugh in the face of credible allegations of sexual assault that were not thoroughly investigated, and his belligerent, partisan performance in last Thursday’s hearing undermines the legitimacy of the Supreme Court,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the woman largely responsible for the circus that these hearings turned into.

“The damage done today will be enduring — to the United States Supreme Court and to our country,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
Ahead of the vote, NY Times columnist Paul Krugman said: “Kavanaugh may yet be confirmed, but this will make the court fundamentally illegitimate.”

At Slate, Mark Joseph Stern wrote: “As soon as Kavanaugh takes the oath, he will plunge the Supreme Court into a legitimacy crisis that could weaken its power over the long term. This crisis will become particularly acute if Democrats retake Congress and the presidency but find their reforms stymied by a reactionary judiciary.”

You have to really read that twice to appreciate its full idiocy. The Supreme Court’s legitimacy, Stern seems to argue, is based on how much of the Democrat agenda it affirms. How illuminating!

David Faris at BuzzFeed suddenly thinks it’s time for Republicans and Democrats to “agree on a broad compromise – a constitutional amendment that eliminates lifetime tenure for the Supreme Court, with service capped at 18 years.”*

*Subject to abolishment the second a Democrat president succeeds in putting a liberal majority on the bench, we’re sure.

Much of this handwringing is based on a faulty premise: That Americans NOW view the Supreme Court as a larger-than-life, apolitical institution that guides and interprets our Constitution with the wisdom lacking in the other two branches of government. That just isn’t the case, and it hasn’t been for a very long time. You’d have to be very naďve to look at all of those 5-4 decisions throughout the last five or ten years and think, “Wow, such a coincidence that it always seems to fall along party lines…” Are we really that dumb, as a nation? No.

What these liberals really mean is that THEY will now view the Supreme Court as illegitimate because THEY no longer have an ideological advantage. Much as they view the Electoral College as illegitimate because THEY keep getting the short end of the stick. This is just more partisan whining, dressed up to look like sober political analysis.

What about the real illegitimate leader of their Marxist cult, Barrack Hussein Obama. We put up with his campaign and presidency without one FBI background check, but responded with respect for our Constitution and republic.

The refusal of Senate Majority Leader McConnell to even hold hearings on nominee Judge Merrik Garland and the subsequent very limited hearings and investigation of well-founded charges against now-Justice Kavanaugh, without even considering the Judge's disqualifying position on presidential inviolability has set the stage for similar tactics once the democrats regain control of the Senate, whenever that happens.

It's a case of what goes around, comes around. Don't be surprised when it happens. Dismay would be appropriate, but not surprise.

    Let's see the truth.
So Obomas appointing Kagan to the Supreme Court, who worked for Clinton,( a Democrat), and then Obomas nominates Sotomeyer (as fricken lefty liberal as they come) to the Supreme Court.

And you're complaining here, crying and saying, "what goes around, comes around".
are you so young that you don't know history, or are you so stupid that your brain doesn't work?
    you chose.

If the Dems take control in 2020, they'll be going pedal to the medal. And Medicare for All won't cost them elections like Obamacare did. Young people are more interested in healthcare and livable wages than gun rights and banning abortion. Plus many conservatives are dying off.

They might even cut off highway funds for any state that doesn't institute tamper-proof voting machines backed by paper and blockchain. Plus automatic voter registration and an end to gerrymandering (benefitting either side). Shenanigans like those currently going on in Georgia would be eliminated.

If Dems stay in power long enough, Clarence Thomas (70) will either retire or keel over and the SC will be liberal 5 to 4.
