MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. Russia is not going to wage war against Ukraine but will respond in kind, if Kiev carries out a provocation on the border with Crimea, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station on Monday.

"We will not wage war against Ukraine, I promise you," he vowed.

    Donbass republics
He stressed that Ukraine’s domestic problems were "much broader and deeper" than just the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics (DPR, LPR). That’s why Russia cannot just recognize the DPR and LPR, as that would be tantamount to leaving the rest of Ukraine in the hands of the Nazi regime.

"You want to recognize the LPR and DPR? And what’s next? To lose the rest of Ukraine and abandon it to the Nazis?" he said, when asked why Russia refused to recognize these self-proclaimed republics.

    Provocation near Crimea

He noted though that Kiev was plotting more incitement on the border with Russia. "I am sure there will be more provocations," he warned. ""[Ukrainian President Pyotr] Poroshenko is planning an armed provocation on the border with Russia, on the border with Crimea during the last ten days of December."

The minister vowed that Russia would not leave that unanswered. "The answer is: they will regret it. This is our country, this is our border. We will not allow him [Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko] to try to somehow protect his interests, the way he sees it, and violate those rights that Crimeans defended in full accordance with international law," Lavrov stressed.

Russia’s top diplomat pointed out that the current regime in Kiev was similar to that of neo-Nazis.

"We are not fighting the Ukrainian regime. It is Ukrainian citizens living in Donbass who are fighting against the Ukrainian regime, which has full Nazi and neo-Nazi characteristics," Lavrov pointed out.According to Russia’s data, Poroshenko has been discussing the upcoming provocation on the border with Crimea with his Western sponsors. "They advise him to keep low intense combat actions to enable them to go ahead with propaganda that Russians are carrying out an offensive against Ukraine and that’s why Russia needs to be hit by sanctions, but military actions should never switch into a phase that will be followed by full-scale responses," Lavrov stressed.

Russia’s top diplomat emphasized that Kiev’s provocations are ongoing. "Our respective services are making all necessary efforts to thwart these incidents."

    Minsk accords
The Minsk agreements are the only way of overcoming the crisis in the Donbass region, he said.

"There is no alternative to the Minsk agreements," the minister stressed. "I said the same thing the year before last as well."

In response to a journalist’s remark that the Minsk agreements are allegedly not working, he said, "The UN Charter has likewise been violated on numerous occasions, and it is does not work many times either. However, it is impermissible to give in to panic."

    Ukrainian regime
Lavrov said the current Ukrainian regime is similar to that of neo-Nazis.

"We are not fighting against the Ukrainian regime. These are Ukrainian citizens living in Donbass, who are fighting against the Ukrainian regime, which has all characteristics of Nazis and neo-Nazis," Lavrov said.

When asked why Moscow is not severing ties with Kiev, Lavrov stressed: "We have relations with the Ukrainian state, the Ukrainian state is much more and more important for us than that regime, which is currently in power thanks to the West’s betrayal of all norms of the international law and international behavior."

"The Ukrainian people have nothing to do with it, and I’m sure that most Ukrainian citizens wish peace to their country and want it to get rid of this shameful regime and resume normal ties with Russia," he said.

To this aim, Ukraine’s domestic problems need to be settled, which are "much broader and deeper than simply the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic.". http://tass.com/politics/1036360

Today russians focused on Hnutove, both Shyrokyne and Vodyane were (relatively)quiet. Small arms fire on Hnutove while people were trying to cross the CP an hour ago. According to weather report it will be minus degrees soon and then the mud will freeze, then maybe Russia attack.

Nato fighter aircraft scrambled four times over Baltic Sea last week Nato fighter aircraft conducting the Baltic Air Policing mission were scrambled four times from 10 to 16 December after Russian military aircraft flew near international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

A TU-134 was intercepted by Nato aircraft on 10 December whilst flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia without the flight plan.

It maintained radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre without using its on-board transponder.

A Nato fighter jet also identified and escorted an AN-26 on 13 December. https://www.airforce-technology.com/...sea-last-week/

The AN-26 was not using its on-board transponder and flying without the flight plan from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad.

On 14 December, Nato aircraft were again scrambled to intercept another AN-26 with a switched-off on-board transponder.

The Nato air policing peacetime collective defence mission is aimed at protecting the Nato Alliance Member’s airspace and is carried out under the Nato Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS).

Aircraft are scrambled to respond to military and civilian aircraft in distress or those that do not follow international flight regulations and approach Allies’ airspace.

Russian has been posing military challenges in recent years by continually entering international airspace unlawfully.

Nato jets intercepted one SU-27 and an SU-30 on 15 December. The fighter jets were flying without the flight plan from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia and were not using the on-board transponder and maintaining the radio communication.

Russia says it will begin tests of most advanced Sarmat ICBM in “nearest perspective” Russia’s Strategic Missile Force Commander Colonel-General Sergei Karakayev said that flight tests of the most advanced Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) will begin in “the nearest perspective.”

According to Karakayev, the necessary infrastructure for the flight tests of Sarmat ICBM is being constructed at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in north Russia.

“Flight tests of the complex will start in the nearest perspective and its success will provide for the serial production of its components,” he said.

The rearmament of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces with the most advanced Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile will begin with the the Uzhur-based strategic missile force division in 2021, Karakayev said.

“Wе plan to start the rearmament with this missile complex starting in 2021 in the Uzhur-based missile force division, which currently has in operation its predecessor – the Voyevoda missile complex,” Karakayev said.

The Sarmat is scheduled to replace an older generation of Russian missiles as the RS-20B Voyevoda in the 2020s.

According to earlier reports, the serial production of the Sarmat ICBM is expected to begin from 2020 and in 2021 the first regiment armed with this missile is expected to assume combat duty.

The RS-28 Sarmat is the Russian promising silo-based missile complex with the heavy liquid-propellant ICBM capable of carrying nuclear charges.

It weighs about 200 tonnes and has a throw weight of about 10 tonnes. https://defence-blog.com/news/russia...rspective.html

Putin: Russia can easily make intermediate-range missiles if US quits nuclear treaty
    Reuters|Published: 12.18.18 , 14:48
MOSCOW—Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia could easily make and deploy land-based intermediate-range missiles if the United States made good on a threat to quit a landmark nuclear arms control treaty.

The United States has accused Russia of flouting the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty signed by Washington and Moscow during the Cold War and has said it will quit it unless Russia comes back into compliance.

Putin on Tuesday denied his country was in violation of the agreement, but said it had developed powerful airborne and sea-based cruise missiles and could easily roll out land-based missiles if Washington walked away from the pact. https://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,...428464,00.html
