Report: Giffords, Kelly's Gun Control Group Now Pushing Temporary Gun Confiscation

by AWR Hawkins 15 Aug 2014, 8:34 AM PDT 268 post a comment

Americans for Responsible Solutions--the group formed by gun control proponents former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly--has issued a new report listing five ideas "to reduce gun violence." Four of the five revolve around temporary gun confiscation or gun bans.

The report was issued in conjunction with the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
According to the Arizona Republic, Giffords and her husband found the "rational middle ground" in the new report.
The report begins with the fairly innocuous idea of to removing "loopholes" where they exist between states and the federal government regarding information on the mentally ill. But after that, the focus turns to confiscation:
Idea Two: "Authorize law enforcement to remove access to guns, with court oversight and plenty of protections to prevent abuse of this authority." The owner of the guns would "only" get them back once he or she was "no longer a danger to themselves or others."
Idea Three: "Require schools, including colleges and universities, to report violent or suicidal people to a court or administrating agency." These people would also have their firearms confiscated, but "could regain their firearms access...after a certain period of time."
Idea Four: "Allow courts to issue 'Gun Violence Restraining Orders.'" These result in temporary gun confiscation.
Idea Five: "Temporarily ban those who have been involuntarily hospitalized from purchasing or possessing firearms."
Five ideas, four of which deal with gun confiscation or gun bans. Is this really the "rational middle ground"?

How Giffords Gun Control Group Flipped Two Florida Republican Congressmen on HR 8 Vote

We’ve covered the unconstitutionality of HR8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and how it’s another whack of the hammer and chisels away the foundation that is our freedom along with how some of DC’s scum and villains cheered its passage in the House.

During the midterm election cycle, the Giffords’ gun control group waged a hardcore campaign against a number of incumbents across the country who were perceived as pro-gun and vulnerable. Two Florida lawmakers were in their crosshairs, Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart (R) and Rep. Vern Buchanan (R), who for years had campaigned on a pro-Second Amendment stance and raised cash from gun owners and pro-gun organizations like the NRA.
Here is just a sample of the kind of attacks that Giffords launched at them.
    Radio Ad against Mario Díaz-Balart.
This year alone, there have been more deaths from school shootings than military service members killed abroad. Why? Because politicians aren’t courageous enough to stand up to the corporate gun lobby’s bullying and campaign cash.
    Politicians like Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart.
Here are three facts that you should know about Diaz-Balart.
Number one: he’s taken thousands of dollars from the NRA. More money than any other Florida member of Congress. He even took their money AFTER the Parkland school shooting. After seventeen children and their| educators were gunned down.
Number two: Diaz-Balart gets an A rating from the NRA year after year. And number three: Diaz-Balart voted to weaken our gun laws, not strengthen them. Diaz-Balart even refuses to support common-sense solutions like requiring background checks on all gun sales.
Nothing’s going to get done with Diaz Balart in the NRA’s pocket voting against our safety.

It appears that Giffords’ ad assaults have succeeded. Both Buchanan and Diaz-Balart voted in support of HR 8 and proudly display it on their congressional websites.
