US test-launches nuclear-capable Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile The US has tested an unarmed Minuteman III ICBM, launching it from southern California towards the Marshall Islands in the Pacific. The nuclear-capable missile successfully hit its target.
The missile was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base early Wednesday. The projectile traveled 4,200 miles (6,759km) over the Pacific towards a target placed on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.Video of the launch shows the missile silo opening before liftoff, as well as the ascent of the projectile. The footage does not show the final stages of the missile’s flight, though it is said to have successfully hit the mock target. The goal of the test launch was described by Air Force Global Strike Command as to “validate and verify the effectiveness, readiness and accuracy of the weapon system.” The Minuteman III is the only nuclear-capable ground-based ICBM that remains in service in the US. That's why many have been reluctant in South America to support armed intervention..

Did Lavrov respond by telling Pompeo, stop supporting the opposition?

Guido is no longer a member of Gov't, he was kicked out when they revoked his immunity, by the opposition who appointed him..

Default US Deployed USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and bomber task force

Is this connected to the war brewing in Gaza ??

USS Lincoln strike group deployed to send Iran 'clear and unmistakable' message, Bolton says

" The U.S. is sending the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the Middle East in order "to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime," National Security Adviser John Bolton announced Sunday night.

Bolton said the deployment was in response to "a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings" on the part of Tehran, but did not elaborate. Such deployments are rarely announced in advance.

"Any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force," Bolton said. "The United States is not seeking war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, whether by proxy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or regular Iranian forces."

Beijing Puts Army On "Heightened Alert" Over US Warships In South China Sea As Tensions Soar While investors from around the globe are desperately looking for clues if the simmering trade war between the US and China is about to get rather hot at midnight on Friday, when as the US Trade Rep warned after the close, the US will hike tariffs to 25% on Chinese imports, the not so veiled geopolitical conflict between the two superpowers which has a far greater chance of mutating into a "kinetic" exchange after China expressed its "strong opposition" on Monday after two US warships sailed near disputed islands in the South China Sea.

It was the third time this year that Washington has challenged Beijing’s maritime claims in the region which China has expressly claimed as its national interest, amid escalating rivalry between the two powers.

As we reported this morning, guided-missile destroyers USS Preble and USS Chung-Hoon passed within 12 nautical miles of Gaven and Johnson reefs in the Spratly Islands on Monday, Commander Clay Doss, a spokesman for the US Navy’s Seventh Fleet, said according to Reuters. The territory is also claimed by the Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan.Quoted by the SCMP, Commander Doss said the move aimed to assert international rights to “innocent passage” and “challenge excessive maritime claims” in accordance with international law, although Beijing hardly saw the latest US intervention in Chinese backwaters as "innocent." The incident was the third time this year that the US has conducted so-called freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea, compared to five publicly reported passages last year and four in 2017.

Predictably, with Trump set to pull the plug on a trade deal between Washington and Beijing, the move drew criticism from Beijing, with the foreign ministry calling for the US to end the provocation.

“The US warships’ actions have violated China’s sovereignty and disturbed the peace, security and order of the region,” ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said. “The Chinese side is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposed to that.Senior Colonel Li Huamin, a spokesman for the Southern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army, said in a message on the PLA Daily’s social media account that the PLA Navy “identified” and “warned off” the US vessels.

The command was on “heightened alert” and would “take all necessary measures” to safeguard China’s sovereignty over the South China Sea, he said.

In a clear escalation compared to recent previous diplomatic retorts, on Monday, Senior Colonel Li Huamin, a spokesman for the Southern Theatre Command of the People’s Liberation Army, said in a message on the PLA Daily’s social media account that the PLA Navy “identified” and "warned off" the US vessels.

Confirming just how infuriated Beijing was with the latest "innocent passage" by US warships, the Colonel said that the Chinese army was on “heightened alert” and would “take all necessary measures” to safeguard China’s sovereignty over the South China Sea.

Meanwhile, signaling that such provocations will not stop any time soon, US Commander Doss said the freedom of navigation operations "are not about any one country, nor are they about making political statements," which of course, is only half a lie: it is indeed about two countries, the US and China, however such operations are all about making a political statement.

Luckily, so far these statements have not resulted in any major provocative escalations, but if and when the Chinese feel they have nothing more to gain by remaining cordial with the Trump administrations, expect something to break, especially since as Admiral Phil Davidson, head of the US Indo-Pacific Command, suggested in February, naval operations by the US and its allies like Britain would become more frequent.

A similar patrol in September, also near Gavin and Johnson reefs, resulted in a near collision when a US destroyer was forced to make a last-minute manoeuvre to avoid hitting a Chinese warship. Next time when a US and Chinese warship go head to head, it is almost certain that there will be no last-minute evasive manoeuvers.https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-...-tensions-soar

Satellite Image Reveals China Constructing Its Third And Largest Aircraft Carrier

    By Reema Roy
    05/07/19 AT 8:54 AM

00:56China's First Domestically-Built Aircraft Carrier Begins Maiden Sea Trial

Exclusive satellite images released by a Washington-based think- tank shows the construction of China’s third and largest aircraft carrier with hi-tech launch system. Chinese government has not formally confirmed the construction of the carrier. The image from April reveals the recent construction activity during last six months on a large vessel at the Jiangnan shipyard outside Shanghai.
The Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard Group was given the permission to start construction after the annual sessions of China’s legislature and top political advisory body in March, reported South China Morning Post.

Despite the Chinese state- run media reporting the construction of the third largest aircraft carrier last year, the timing and the extent of the carrier programme remains a state secret.

The Pentagon last week said that the work on the vessel had begun, but no image emerged until recently.
China's first domestically developed aircraft carrier departs Dalian, Liaoning province, China, May 13, 2018. Photo: REUTERSThe effort to build a locally designed large carrier is part of China’s extensive military modernization drive. The project is challenging decades of superiority the U.S had in East Asia, Reuters reported.
The report along with the satellite images released by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, which has been studying the Jiangnan shipyard, reveals that the shipyard has expanded dramatically since 2011. Almost 18 warships were identified in the shipyard images last year.
The latest satellite images released on April 17 show a gantry crane looming over head, a bow section that appears to end with a flat 30 meter front and a separate hull section that is 41 meters wide.
CSIS analyst Matthew Funaiole said it was difficult for his team to see evidence of the construction of the warship from pictures taken late last year, but the recent images confirm that the work has begun. “From what we can see there has been a lot of activity in the last six months or so,” he said. “It would appear that it is the third carrier, and if it is not, it's hard to envisage what other large vessel it would be,” the Daily Mail reported.
