The NYPD is asking for volunteers from its civilian staff to enforce the state’s quarantine order for travelers, The Post has learned.
A memo sent out to NYPD members less than an hour before Mayor Bill de Blasio announced he was setting up checkpoints to enter New York City, said the off-duty “volunteers will be assigned to Penn Station or Port Authority Bus Terminal.”
The civilian members of the NYPD who volunteer will be charged with collecting forms from out-of-state travelers and “reminding” them of the mandatory 14-day self-quarantine.
The NYPD’s civilian staff, which totals just shy of 20,000, was hit hard by the coronavirus when it swept through the department, killing more than three dozen.
De Blasio announced the crackdown, with hefty fines for those who violate, Wednesday morning alongside New York City Sheriff Joseph Fucito, whose agency is taking the lead in enforcement.

Most NYC Loses Power For Nearly An Hour, No One Seems To Know Why…

A massive power outage struck Friday morning in the upper part of Manhattan, knocking out not only lights but also cellphone service, and a short time later power went out in a large chunk of Queens as well.
At one point it was pitch black as far as the eye could see along Broadway north of 73rd Street on both the east and west sides of Manhattan.
Power came back on after around 20 minutes for parts of the Upper West Side, though some spotty outage reports lingered thereafter.
