At this moment, in this specific time some of the most tragic events in history either took place or began. It's the period of the year when it SEEMS as if God is the farthest from us. Because of this evil perceives its opportunity. So we pray and say Psalms and fast praying for God's protection from evil. For all mankind.

Parshas Devarim / Shabbos Chazon
We are currently in the saddest week of the Jewish year leading up to the saddest day of the Jewish year-Tisha B'Av, the ninth day of the month of Av. We are experiencing a very painful and challenging time, particularly for all of our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael/Israel. However, Shabbos is coming! As Shabbos comes, we are directed to put our emotions aside and enjoy and bask in the holiness and enjoyment of the day.
How does one do this and how is it right?
Shabbos always comes and has always been there for us as God says, “It’s a sign forever between God and the Jewish people.”
All the tragedies that we have experienced throughout the exile find their roots, to some degree, in our being estranged from God. We don’t have the same relationship with God as we once enjoyed in the times of the Temple. It is for this loss that we mourn. When Shabbos comes, God is here. We have a special closeness with our Creator on this day. It’s a time we spend with Him and He has never taken that away.
So, this Shabbos, more than any, may we feel God’s closeness and care and may we merit speedily in our day true salvation and peace.
