One of my favorite historical events is Cyrus' strealth/surprise invasion/conquest of ancient Babylon [which is also major Biblical history.] An interesting part of that history is the role of the Babylonian "Governor of Gutium" who secretly defected to Cyrus and was a major player in the fall of Babylon.
