    Default Ziploc omelet

Thought each of you would like to try this, that is if you are an omelet person...enjoy!!

Subject: Ziploc Omelets - This Sounds Like A Heck Of A Good Idea!!!

How do people come up with these clever ideas?

    ZIPLOC OMELET

(This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together.

The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!)

Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with

    permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2)

    shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper,

    tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.

Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes

[we did 15 minutes]. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot.

For more, make another pot of boiling water.

Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone

    to be amazed.

Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the

process and a great conversation piece...

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in

boiling water while you get ready. And in 15 minutes, you've got a nice

    omelet for a quick breakfast!!!

    What a cool idea!

Our family LOVES omelettes, but have you ever tried to cook omelettes for 11 people??

I'm going to try this tomorrow!

I wonder if I will have to boil them longer because of the altitude? Wonder if you can wash and reuse the bags for another purpose?

Thanks! First cake in a cup, and now omelletes in a bag - you ladies are spectacular (and the guys, too)

Mines in the pot boiling right now! Just waiting till they're done.

Our daughter called the other night to tell us about that recipe which she got in an email. Must be going around. We've got 4 dz eggs we got on sale for 29 cents a dz, so we're having omelets for supper tonight.

Please let us know how it turned out before I use 22 eggs and 11 ziplocs in the morning, ok?

Yum! They turned out really well. I put 3 eggs, green pepper, onion, ham and shredded cheese in each one. They were really good.

One of the bags had a little water in it in the corners, but it didn't hurt the omelet at all. I poured the water out before putting the omelet on the plate. All I had were inexpensive thin bags and that one may have had a hole in it or got a hole maybe by bubbling next to the hot pan, don't know. Next time I'll use better, thicker bags.

    Hope you enjoy them!

Great idea. I love omlets but just have never had the knack for making them. Gonna have one in the morning.

Probably nothing to it, but I saw this on another board and some people said regular zip lock bags weren't safe to cook in. Something about the type of plastic releasing chemicals when heated. I have a friend who gets boiling bags someplace and has lots of eggs. They just put a dozen or so boiled eggs in a bag and leave them whole. They boil them and end up with a big glob of boiled eggs. They just chop them with a knife for things like eggs salad, potato salad, etc. Much easier than peeling fresh hard boiled eggs.

Sometimes I type things I haven't even thought of yet. If course I mean whole eggs. It is easier to break them open and put them in the bag to boil than to peel boiled fresh eggs. You don't even squish them up, just leave them whole in the bag.
