    Default Fake Steak

    Fake Steak

    1 lb. ground meat
    1 egg, beaten
    1/4 cup milk
    1 cup bread crumbs
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 lb. bacon
    1 can tomato soup
    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    1/4 cup vinegar
    1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce  

    Combine first 5 ingredients in bowl, mixing well. Shape into balls. Wrap with bacon, securing with toothpicks. Brown on all sides in skillet. Pour off drippings. Combine remaining ingredients with 1/2 cup water in bowl, blending well. Pour over meat. Cook, covered, low heat until done or bake at 325 degrees F for 30-45 minutes.

    well that sounds rather tasty Belle!

    it also sounds like something i could make up ahead of time (or even freeze for that matter) for the nights when i work late. do you think i could mix up the meat, fry it, put it in the fridge and then have DH bake it in the sauce the next day?

    or, what if i fried them, froze them and then put them in the crockpot with the sauce in the morning while still frozen?

    i'm really excited about this recipe!! (can you tell?)

    Ooohh! This sounds yummy! Bet the sugar and vinegar kick the flavor complexity up several notches.

    I think either one would work. Now you've given ME some ideas! This would make a good make-ahead dish.
