I've thought many times that in a community in the thereafter that the group needs at least one far ranging scout that goes out as much as 100 miles in a circular travel to find out what is out there.
Reading some of the novels of the olden days before the Revolutionary War, they had 'injun savvy' scouts that kept track of the enemy out from the fort. They could be gone a month or even months before making contact with the home base. Took a special man to do this IMO.
