Am reading Black Monday by Bob Reiss. Pretty good TEOTWAWKI material.
Premise: what happens when the world's oil supply is rendered unusable. All the machines in the world stop working when a microbe infests the world's oil supply, from oil field to refinery to gas tank.
Just a third of the way through, but interesting reading.
"There are those who hate Christianity and call their hatred an all-embracing love for all religions."

"We are a nation that has a government, not the other way around" Ronald Reagan, Inaugural Address, 1981
I am surprised that no one has mentioned Footfall another great catastrophe book from the team of Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. It is about alien invasion but has some great tips within the story line.
I also second "Patriots" by Rawles. it is a great story with a lot of good tips too. Sort of an entertaining how-to-guide.
I have enjoyed Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle stuff for YEARS. Lucifer's Hammer and Footfall are both EXCELLENT reads, and portray the emotional/social effects of the disaster as well as very practical prep ideas.
To save a buck many books are available at your library. The best I've read lately is Through the Fire Without Burning by:Dumitru Duduman,
available through Hand of Help Ministries: http://www.handofhelp.com/index.php
