I REALLY don't think the city folks are going to be up to walking very far no matter the incentive. Blisters will slow them down, the lack of hydration and food will stop them in their tracks. By your figuring if it takes 40 to secure 100 acres (and I don't know a single person that has THAT much acerage) it would only take 4 to secure 10 acres and MOST of us rural folks have that covered if need be. Basically we're mostly betting our lives on the inability of the typical city person to walk very far especially trying to traverse Ar. gravel, up and down "roads". A horse has a tough time on my road, forget about walking in. Cross country would be even worse. We shall see how it turns out in any case.

Hey, Goatlady - you said you dont' know anyone who owns 100 acres. Well, now you do - we have 376 acres.

Exactly. get to know your neighbors. In the country people are still "neighborly" and it's just not like that in the cities. When we lived int he city I didn't even know my neighbors names and I had lived in my house more then 6 years. Sad, but true. Small town life is much different.
Find some folks and get to know them before the SHTF. Band together and cooperate. You will find that you all have different skills and can help each other out.
It's one of the reasons we moved to where we did, to be closer to friends we know we can count on in a crisis. It may be too late for that now, but it's never to late to make some friends where you are.
You also might consider getting a good guard dog or two. a donkey will make noise and warn you as will geese. (only good if you have some land, I know.)

We've been reaching out to like-minded folks since we moved here last year, and there are few of us who are on the verge of forming a MAG. Not sure when that will actually take place...but we're working on it. Since they live about 2 miles away (which is actually pretty close when you consider the neighborhood, lol), its a good thing...get to know your neighbors...seriously.
