Take a close look at the threads on the regulator and make sure they look good.

I just remembered buying a new one once that had some dings on the threads, and I had to really put a LOT of pressure on the wrench to get it to seat and let the gas flow because it wasn't going in far enough

I ended up having ADHD today and didn't get to it.
    Will try tomorrow.

    Thanks

Will gas flow through the hose before you hook it up to the burners?
If so the problem has to lie in the burner assembly somewhere.
My oxy/propane torch has a blowback flamecheck valve on it in case it tries to backburn into the hose...I don,t know if they use them on a grill or not as I'm a charcoal man myself...

I don't know but will check.
I think there is some safety thing if gas tries to go through the regulator too fast
I'll see if I just barely crack it open if it works

There are multiple safety features on the newest valves

If they are opened too quickly, there's an automatic cutoff which prevents the tank from emptying with no regulator in place

If the regulator isn't screwed into the tank just right, the gas won't flow either

Some regulators also are adjustable, so the gas can be shut off by a dial on top

    Thanks for that suggestion, Millwright.
I'm thinking that almost has to be the problem

    It worked yesterday.
The only thing I did is very slightly open the valve and it light.
    Maybe 1/8 to 1/4 turn.

Sounds like a malfuntion of the safety valve, but at least now you know the trick to making it work!

That will be a Sunday when you have several people over for steaks and the local wallyworld will be out of the cheap replacement regulator assy.
A regulator probably won't help, since the safety device is in the valve on the tank itself.

I like to keep several tanks handy, and have at least two filled at any one time for such situations
