like others, I did applesauce then got a whole bunch more apples so I guess I'm making more. I just bought a used All American canner and want to can some bacon today. Experiments are good, when the food is NOT needed. I hope it works. Then going outside while we have some sun, and read my Ham book so I can be ready for the test to get my license! excited and nervous. There's a lot to know rosie

You'll do fine! Bright 6th graders pass the Tech test. General is harder if you haven't had a physics course at one time or another.

    Here's a free practice test: http://aa9pw.com/radio/

It's on the left side. Check "tech" test.

Good luck! (Extra Class ham here, from back when CW was required)

Cooked up some Chanterelle Mushrooms, now frozen awaiting to go into future jars of Venison. I finished using up all my ripe tomatoes. The Ketchup will be canned tomorrow.

I didn't get many tomatoes this year due to our drought. We had enough to eat fresh, but that's it. So, I'm buying cases of whole canned tomatoes to compensate. Don't like doing that, but I don't want my stock getting low.

Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't have had hardly any tomatoes without the hoop house over the tomato bed! I took a few days off from everything and am ready to get back in the swing...

Okay, will be doing one thing in a moment. I am cutting my Lemon Grass, so I can hang it up and dry it. She has become my living room houseplant as the Winter here would be fatal.

No need for those hoop houses down here in the deep south. We can grow veggies year around down here except for January and February. It's the summer droughts that usually get us, even with all the rain barrels we have set up. Got lots of green beans for canning, though.

I'm bringing in all my houseplants from the deck today. We are supposed to be getting our first frost of the season tomorrow night. The plants out on the front porch should be ok for now. It's only supposed to be 31 degrees.

I am in Zone 8b, so have a long growing season. We don't get hot summers here, so the hoop house helps with that (heat lovers...). Fortunately, our dry spell last summer didn't affect our well.

It's good to see these type of threads reopened, BoB. I miss all the prepping topics that flourished here at one time. I had forgotten about this one. One can only read so many political type threads for so long, before they start getting old.

With the situation of the world right now, we decided Monday to start topping off all our stores, and I made an inventory of all the items I needed to top off my pantry room. Some things I had let get low. We managed to have a big garden this year, and have been tending and babysitting it with the hope that we'll have a great harvest. So, I guess the biggest thing we've done to prep is just making inventories of all our preps, and plan to make a huge run into town tomorrow to top off everything.

It would be interesting if others would share their thinking on prepping they are doing in light of world events. Anything different, or just steady as she goes?
