In a sign of increased caution about flying near combat zones, U.S. and European airlines halted flights to Israel Tuesday after a rocket landed near Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport.

Delta Air Lines and United Airlines suspended service between the U.S. and Israel indefinitely. US Airways scrapped its one flight to Tel Aviv Tuesday. Germany's Lufthansa and Air France also suspended flights. The actions come days after a Malaysia Airlines jet was shot down over eastern Ukraine with 298 people on board.

Following the action by the U.S. airlines, the Federal Aviation Administration prohibited U.S. airlines from flying to the Tel Aviv airport for 24 hours.

And we are not far from the day when all flights are shut down in most places for the same fear. It will take 3 or 4 shoot-downs but when that happens, the skies will go quiet.

Shall we start a date guess?

And who would possibly bring one down... certainly not the Israelis. Yet the media and much of the world blames them for the current fighting. Such "poor victims" of Israeli aggression. Give me a friggin break.

Our colleague and his daughter are heading back to Israel today rather than next week because they are afraid they won't be able to get back. He's flying through France, and God knows no Jewish person wants to be stranded in France right now. Ack! It's a terrible position to be in!

The most significant thing about this is that the Palestinians have now learned that they can put enormous economic pressure on Israel by threatening their sole gateway to the world. It's a weapon of considerable consequence that dwarfs that of home made whiz bang rockets. This changes everything.

They scrap flights to Ukraine? They're the ones who actually had a civilian aircraft shot down. No, of course not. But they're not going to let a juicy crisis like that get in the way of forcing Israel to comply:

FAA extends ban on US flights to Israel by 24 hours
The decision to halt flights to Israel follows the downing last week of a Malaysia Airlines jet over Ukraine with nearly 300 aboard.

And the world rushes in to aid and support Hamas:

Hamas Claims Suspended Flights to Israel as a 'Great Victory'
Islamist terrorist group celebrates 'victory' as some airlines suspend travel through Ben Gurion airport due to rocket fire.

The rocket near Ben-Gurion's just a smokescreen to punish Israel economically. Netanyahu already approached Kerry to ask for the "blockade" of flights to be lifted and Kerry's response was essentially "only when you agree to my ceasefire." <--- words to that effect.

FAA Extends Ban on Flights to Israel
Washington still reportedly considering a decision to lift flight ban on Israel due to 'security concerns'.

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who is trying to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, told Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu the FAA ban was ordered only to protect the safety of US citizens.

Yup. The tide has turned against Israel. They have become a pariah. Even their staunch American ally has had enough. Like I said above, this changes everything.
