    Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg claimed in a recent interview that racism is “physically built” into parts of the U.S. highway system.

    Responding to an allegation from theGrio White House correspondent April Ryan that the interstate system was “built on a racist system” meant “to keep certain groups in and certain groups out,” Buttigieg agreed, saying, “Yeah, often this wasn’t just an act of neglect. Often this was a conscious choice. There is racism physically built into some of our highways, and that’s why the jobs plan has specifically committed to reconnect some of the communities that were divided by these dollars.”

    President Joe Biden promoted his massive $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan on Wednesday, saying, “We don’t just fix for today. We build for tomorrow.”

    “Two hundred years ago, trains weren’t traditional infrastructure either until America made a choice to lay down tracks across the country,” he continued. “Highways weren’t traditional infrastructure until we allowed ourselves to imagine that roads could connect our nation across state lines.”

    Phase one of fixing the nation’s infrastructure is not just about some of the obvious: repairing potholes, bridges, roads, airports, schools, creating new power grids, replacing lead pipes and expanding broadband.
    There are also efforts to correct America’s racist wrongs.
    Equity is now being built into the soon to be updated black-and-white road maps of yesteryear. “If you think about it, much of this infrastructure was paid for and designed before the Voting Rights Act of 1965,” former Obama Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx tells theGrio. “That was a time before Black people were at the table.”

    Buttigieg has raised eyebrows before for comments he made regarding Biden’s infrastructure plan. As The Daily Wire reported:
    Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was ridiculed on social media on Friday for expressing openness to a policy that would pay for President Joe Biden’s massive infrastructure budget by taxing motorists for each mile they drive.
    “So, I think that shows a lot promise,” Buttigieg said regarding a mileage-based tax during an interview with CNBC. “If we believe in that so-called ‘user-pays principle,’ the idea that part of how we pay for roads is you pay based on how much you drive. The gas tax used to be the obvious way to do that; it’s not anymore.”
    “So, a so-called ‘vehicle-miles-traveled tax’ or ‘mileage tax,’ whatever you want to call it, could be a way to do it,” Buttigieg added.
    Many pundits took to social media to blast Buttigieg for floating such an idea, which many claimed would be a further burden on the poor.

    When the interstate system was implemented, the primary victims of it were towns and cities that were on the older US routes - like US 66 and US 90. The engineers themselves were more concerned about topography than municipalities. They didn't take race into consideration AT ALL. ( A good example of what happened is shown nicely in the Pixar film, "Cars" )

    However, when it came to connecting the big cities to the Interstate system, it was quite common to condemn entire sections of cities to raze so they could build the loops and bypasses and so-on. Now, they didn't go through the skyscraper areas, obviously, so the condemned neighborhoods invariably were residential, light industrial, or light commercial. I, myself, lived in an area of Jacksonville, Florida that is now paved-over as an interstate.

    To be sure, a LOT of these areas were probably lower-class areas, and had lots of minorities - but the interstate system didn't get built solely on the shoulders' of minorities - rather on proximity to city centers, or to intentionally BYPASS city centers. The city centers, usually, have a higher-end employment and were historically occupied by white folk.

    The latter is probably the tortured logic of that idiot. I can attest that, for another example, when I-10 went through New Orleans, it affected LOTS of black people. BUT - New Orleans was historically 35-40% black, so what would you expect? ( Today, NOLA is over 50% black ). The 610 bypass cut through nothing but white areas, I can attest. That factoid will be ignored, of course.

    Buttplug's race-baiting is pretty blatant, and it's very tiresome, to say the least, but the mainstream media will point-out the blacks affected and ignore the whites. It's disgusting, and dangerous - and they're doing it intentionally.
